RE: Fokker DR.1 1/2 A Scratch Build-Along
Whew...well I'm finallyback at this again after a computer crash and an extensive recovery install of the OS. Fortunately I didn't loose any data, some of which were the rest of these construction pics. Not like anyones following this anyway, and I don't blame you!!!! I've had a bit of a hard time following it myself! Well, for those of you who still care, or to whomever it may or may not interest or concern. The next three pics are of the addition of the top wing, and the covering of the fuselage. Basicaly you cut to slits for the struts to slide into in the top wing. Set its distances and incidence (all mine were as close to 0 as possible), and glue it. The fuselage was covered in the same way as the wings. Damp paper and glue. The third pic is of the landing gear being bent from music wire, and its basic shape as it is readied to be glued to the bottom of the fuse.

Thanks for the encouragement BipeFlyer. Its nice to know my sporadic efforts are not in vain! And if you have any ideas on how to get VCR video into a format I can post, I'd love to stick some vids of this thing flying up here. I've been flying it all summer and fall, its been a load of fun. Anyway, the next few shots show the landing gear being attached to the bottom of the fuse. I used household goop to bond it in place. Apologies for the blurry shot of it on its "feet" for the first time. And finally, the cowl being readied for trimming and fitting, just after its removal from the mold.

Home-stretchin it now. The next few pics are of the cowl pre trimming. Then post trimming with proper holes marked and being cut. After this I light sanded it and hit it with a couple coats of gloss black paint, and it looked real sharp. Its mounted to the fuse with three small screws which past thru small metal (light aluminum) hard points glued to fuse outer surface, with simple screw holes drilled in. The third shot is the fuse and hatch where the servos mount, and the fourth is of the servos mounted just aft of the fuel tank (pre push rod insertion).

RE: Fokker DR.1 1/2 A Scratch Build-Along
Well, finally, these last three pics are of her "in the white" as I call it, and ready for her maiden flight. This is the way I flew her to work all the bugs out before detailing. You can see what she looks like all finished and with the cowl in place. The last pic by the way is the way I finally oriented things in the engine compartment. The battery holder is clearly seen above the motor with the battery in place. I had to add a small amount of weight to the nose to get it to balance properly in flight, but after this was figured out she flew like a treat! Very pretyy slow flight and handles some wind nicely. Stalls are mushy and predictable, and in fact, you cant really stall it vicously, it just puts its nose back level and sits there flying! My recommendation for landings after flame out is come in steep, then flare to level and let her bleed off speed into the grass. She loses momentum quickly, but if your ready for it its quite simple! I hope someone here has gotten something from this and is inspired to build their own Fokker, or to use these techniques, perhaps in conjunction with their own ideas and methods, to build whatever they may be interested in. I'll post a few more finished pics here in a sec, and maybe a few shots of another project I was developing while writing this. Thanks to all who have followed along!!!
