Default Global Tequila Sunrise 25 ARF .25-.28,36

Hi guys,
I am new to this forum, hence you guys dont know me. I am from india and am into aeromodelling for a year now. I have used the phoenix models for flying i.e. paragon and the classic. They fly well with the .46 OS engines. I am looking for a smaller model so that it fits into the boot of my car. Ideally it should be about 36 to 44 inches wingspan. If any of you know or make one then i would be happy to have your reply. I have seen one on tower hobbies from Global. Its called "Global Tequila Sunrise 25 ARF .25-.28,36", item no LXK422".
Have any of you flown global planes? How is the construction, stability in air etc.? Also if there are smaller glow engine planes like .15 or .25 let me know, thanks.

A friend had the Global TS with a .26 four-stroke. It was pretty outrageous. Not exactly what I'd want to throw in the trunk for a quick flying session because it requires all the "standard" gear. If you must have an ARF, check out the Herr Lil Something Extra. It's good for a Norvel .074 up to a bushing .15. I don't own one, but several other forum members here could report on it or a quick search should turn some info up. It was well liked by most everybody that bought one.

I have both the Tequila Sunrise 25 & the Herr Little Something Extra. The Sunrise has a OS .25FX and is a very sensitive plane to fly. It is not a fun plane. I have had the Herr Little Something Extra with an OS .15LA. This is an excellent choice for size and it is a great flier. I have over 100 flights on it and it is always in the truck to fly. The only change would be to increase the gas tank from a 2 oz to a 4 oz. The plane is well built and I believe this ine you would really like.

Campcrafter --

I considered the Sunrise at one time -- the plane has nice lines and very appealing looks. But after searching the forums and reading comments that were found in a GOOGLE search, decided against it. Many of the reviews were not favorable; it was classed as an intermediate to advanced plane, which is OK, but its flight characteristics were generally described as similar to a brick.

Looking at the specs pretty much explains why. At 3.25 lbs. and 288 sq. in. of wing area, the wing loading is 26 oz/sq ft -- this is one of the highest, if not the highest, of any sport plane I've seen. With this weight, you will have to keep the speed up, otherwise it will be a handful and get snappish.

The HERR Little Something Extra that the guys have recommend would probably be a better choice.

I came to the same conclusion. I ended up with a ModelTech Extra 300S instead. It has been a GREAT plane. I've flown it with an OS 25F ABC and a Webra .32. Both pull it around well, obviously the extra power of the Webra was nice.

The Tequila Sunrise is the worst ARF I have flown in 25 years of modeling. Heavy, flies like a brick and on mine the covering literally flew off the airframe after 5 or 6 flights [X(]

AVOID IT

Hi ptulmer ,flyer495th ,Andrew ,piper_chuck ,Razor-RCU ,
Thanks a ton for your views on the global TS. No point buying something that others are not happy with. I will check out the planes you recommend, but tell me, are they all less than 44 inch wingspan. Also, could you post some pictures or give me links so i can see them there. Thanks again, appreciate your help.

I will be taking out my Herr little Extra later today for its maiden flight and have the video camera with me. I will post a vid for you when I get it produced (pick out an apropriate song for it). It is controlled by Hitech HS-81 servos and powered by an OS .15CV-A spinning an APC 8x4 prop minor hardware upgrades as well. I will give you my Amature review

That's exactly the same thing that I did. I liked the looks of the Tequila Sunrise, but went with the ModelTech Extra. It's a very good flying plane for the money. I have an OS .40FP in mine.

Thanks flyer495th, the plane looks good. Do you use HS 55 or HS 81. Will standard servos do? Also waiting for Mr67Stang to post his video. Keep going....

Flew the Herr little Extra today and all I can say is WOW! I loved it. A little more tail weight and I think I could stabalize a good hover. Harrier passes were doable with a little work with the ailerons. It was definately unlimited virtical. I took a few minutes of video and will get that produced in the next day or so for you and post a link to it on this thread. My first landing came down good then I goosed it for taxi and the darn thing took off again... you will see in the vid as I will let you see even my not so pretty flying(I was landing with some flapperon and still had it engaged when I goosed it) Pretty good wind for my normal flying today but manageable. All in all I say this plane is a buyer!

Please note that I do not work for Herr or have any afiliationg with Sig Manufacturing...
Just enthusiastic about a cool little plane.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the video, But can you tell me what servos did you use. They recommend something like HS 81. I want to know if the standard servos would do.

Hi,
Thanks for taking the video, But can you tell me what servos did you use. They recommend something like HS 81. I want to know if the standard servos would do.
The kit recomends HS-55 servos but I decided to go with HS-81 servos for everything but the throttle which is some genaric GWS HS-55 like servo. To install the HS-81's you will have to do some cutting. so be ready for that. I will get to that video tonignt ot Sunday but have it posted here by Sunday.

I am using the JR NES 241 servo's. The second plane I converted from electric to gas was the Mini Funtana. But the plane could not handle the landings with the gas power. I keep rebuilding the unit it had about 80 or so flights and I just got tried or having to rebuild. After I would rebuild a section than the next part would have a problem. If you were to do a seach on the mini Funtana you would see the tread. The Herr Little Extra was made the for gas and I have not done any rebuilding of it at all. IF you use the Hitec HS 81 you will have to open up the servo slots some but the weight and the extra spacing will not cause any problems. I would not use any regular size servo's at all.

not ARF and not really the topic of this forum but if you want something small that'll fit the .40-.46 you already have then build a hots, but only the original one piece design. leave the round wingtips off and remove one rib bay and you'll have a wingspan of 42". with a bit of care you can keep it under 3 lbs. with standard radio gear and it'll be one of the most fun to fly planes you could ever hope for.

Mr67Stang,
that video was great, now i know exactly what i will be flying and deeply appreciate the fact that you took the video for me to see. I'm sure others would find it useful too. I have almost set my mind on owning one. Thanks to you and all the others who have read this thread and given me valuable tips and especially to you for hosting the video.

I think that I am going to go against the grain a little. I test flew a tequila sunrise for a club member a few months ago and didn't see anything wrong with it. I don't remember what he had for power or what it weighed, but if flew just fine. Hands off even. I don't think that it would be nearly as much fun as the something extra though. I remember it flying just like it looked, a small kind of fast sport plane.
