Wanted: Norvel .049/.061 R/C Carb.
I am looking to buy one or two R/C carbs that will fit the .049/.061 Norvel Revlite Engine. Due to the shortage of Norvel parts I can't locate a R/C carb anywhere. I have called Hobby Stores in the US and Canada and had no luck. If anyone has a Norvel carb that they are willing to part with please let me know.

I'd go ahead and get the AP .061 Wasp? until the parts are available again for norvels, I doubt anyone has anything in the way of carbs they want to part with..plus if there are casualties of engines usually the carb parts are the first to go...Rog

The stand looks good! I would suggest while you are waiting on the lube, to remove the motor and tank from the stand, then paint it . Otherwise, a few runs and the oil will soak the wood and everything starts to loosen. If painted, should last through the needed testing during the future.

Someone had trouble finding a carb a couple of months ago and arranged a trade with a CL guy on Stuka Stuntworks (CL stunt site). I believe he had CL venturis and needed carbs, thus arranged a trade. They may also sell the carbs to offset the cost of conversion parts.
Good luck.

That was me! I've also found carbs by "trolling" ebay and asking the Norvel sellers if they have any spares. The hit rate is low, but it's turned up a few.

I got my cator oil, so I mixed up a small batch of fuel to break in my AP Wasp .061. I just used fuel I had on hand, I mixed two parts Power Master 10% Nitro to one part Byrons 25% Nitro 1/2A fuel to get around 17.5% Nitro and added enough castor to bring it up to around 22% oil. AP suggests using 15% Nitro fuel to break it in.
After four 1oz runs - around 20mins or so - it was holding a very smooth lean setting, but not peaked out completely. I started out with a rough 2-cycle setting and used the fuel line pinching method to make it run lean for a few seconds at a time. I quickly pinched the tubing about every ten seconds which made it lean out and then quickly fall back to my NV setting. Each run I leaned the NV a bit more. By the fourth run I had it leaned to the point that pinching the tubing just barely increased the rpm. If the engine sags when the tubing is pinched, the NV is set too lean. If the rpm doesn't change when the tubing is pinched it is fully peaked in the test stand and should be backed off a click or two for flying.
I am very happy with this engine. The muffler doesn't really do much, but it starts right up and the throttle is very smooth, although not quite instant. Well worth $40, IMO.

AV8R-RCU;
Try Sig. I just got (today) their latest catalog, and in there are Norvel engines. It may be they are having some luck getting engines/parts from Norvel. try www.sigmfg.com , or 1-641-623-5154 .
Who knows, they may have the carb parts needed.

SIG is the current importer/distributor of NORVEL engines -- they have been in negotiations with NORVEL of Russia for some time and continue to assure us that engines should be arriving at any time. They have also indicated that contract talks have been more difficult than expected due to distance and language differences.
In short, if SIG doesn't have engines in stock, no one will. NORVEL originally stood for Northern Velocity when the engines were first imported for CL combat.

Andrew;
Thanks for the info. I do not own a Norvel (long time Cox user), was just sending based on a scan through the catalog. I had heard about Sig and Norvel, thought it looked promising to "report" the catalog info.
I am very aware of the trouble finding parts, and if it helps sharing, I will do what I can, and hope for others to do the same.
Its all about the hobby, making it as good as it can be.
