Default Spinner

So who makes a really good Cox 1/2A spinner so I can use my electric starter ? They all have too large a hole and I am open to suggestions on how to make them center better.

I want to eventually build a '50's 1/2A speed model for a shelf display with Wasp or Atwood .049 engines but have been unable to find aluminum built-up spinners.

I have used lots of 1 1/2" spinners for .049 engines, made by Goldburg and others. The biggest problem I can see is that a spinner that big on a 5" to 6" prop cuts down on the thrust and forward speed. As far as for the larger center hole in the spinner that has never been a problem for me. I will some times cut a small slice of fuel line tubing; I slip it over the screw or shaft and when it is tightened it takes up the slack in the opening.

Is the spinner too large or the hole in the cone too large?

Been having trouble keeping them centered because the hole in the spinner is too large , I will give the fuel line tubing trick a try.[sm=thumbs_up.gif]

Hobby Lobby has these 1 3/16" (30mm) jobs. They're about the smallest plastic ones I've found:

Brodak has a small 1 inch aluminum spinner available. It is not listed on the Brodak website however, you will have to call and inquire.

http://www.brodak.com

There is listed on the web site a 1-1/4" spinner (32mm) as well. Their web site always seems to trail well behind any new additions. They are easy to reach by phone and very easy and pleasant to deal with.

A short thread on this subject on the Stuka Stunt Forum:

http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dc/dcb...ng_type=search

and two pictures shamelessy copied from the thread on the Stuka Stunt forum. There may be other bits of info on these spinners on the SS forum but I didn't look.

cheers, Graham

I tried the tubing trick, seems to work OK. Finally got my TeeDee 049 started today. What a pain.

[link=http://www.allerc.com]All E RC[/link] carried the Hyperion brand -- just search on spinner for their listings. I'm not sure how well they would work with a starter since they're lightly constructed. The 32mm is listed at 4.6 grams.

Since I have your attention may I ask about problem with my TD049 that let ot this spinner discussion. I was having a world of trouble getting my TD to start and stay running, it would either start, burn off the prime or flood completely! I was using my tried and true gravity feed system I have used on all my other engines but when I lowered the tank to exactly level with the carb it started and ran immidiately. However if I raised the tank just ever so slightly it affected the mixture adversly. Perhaps my needle valve is incorrect? Going full fuel to nothing in 2 clicks? I am looking for any advise.[&o]
