I've nailed down the fuse and fin contours. I've decided the best way to build it (since I want the fin to fair nicely into the fuse) is to build the fuse and fin as a single unit. All that's really left to do is work out the framework of the fuse and fin. I still can't help but wonder if really lightweight glass might not be a better way to go. As I look at this further, I begin to think 1/2A won't pull it well enough...but after all this work I'm going to leave the size as-is and power it however I need to. It definitely needs a canopy, I'm thinking a drastically trimmed-down bubble canopy would look good. I'm also turning ideas over in my mind for a sexery landing gear that won't detract from the look of the thing...it's too pretty to let it belly-flop.

*sigh* It won't fly a durn bit better than a Skydrill or SureShark though [&o]

Very good looking design! If I were building it, I would go with retracts. If you go fixed, then I say put it on floats like a Schneider Trophy racer.. As for the canopy, what about a turtle deck style canopy? That way you could extend the line of the canopy, and make it a long curve like the rest of the aircraft? Do you have any plans to sell plans to the rest of us?

Actually, due to my CAD program crashing and taking the plans with it, I'm back to square one designing it. This isn't too much of a problem, as I have the basic outlines already in mind...just gotta redo 'em *sigh*.

As far as the langing gear goes, it's going to be a taildragger like the golden age racing jobs...with spats and pants (think Gee Bee). Angled forward aggressively.

The program doesn't store backup copies or anything? What software are you using? I have my Solidworks set up to store 3 older backup copies of all my files. If the working file gets corrupted, there is usually something that is valid in backup that is not too old. I typically back up all my files an another drive fairly regularly while actively working on a project.

One more comment on the airfoil choice. I'm going along with DD on this one. Having flown many S400 electrics I would also use a and RG14 or RG15. Many people say that in this size the thickness doesn't make much difference in lift or stall characteristics. Thinner airfoils will allow for less drag with little to no loss of stall or low speed performance.

Yep, I'm changing over to the RG14 airfoil (it looks 'right' too). I was using TurboCAD on account of I can afford the high-end stuff. I'm experimenting with Alibre right now, I think I'll get decent results when I get the hang of the software.
