Default 1/2A Snapper earliest date?

I am trying to find the earliest date that Southwest Models 1/2A Snapper existed. Anyone out there have information on this? I had one in 1956, but I am hoping it existed before Dec. 1952, so it would be Old Time legal in competition.

Thanks, Larry

Larry,

I think you got it when it was a new kit. I'll see if I can find some old mags that have it. I remember when Southwest was creating interest by just showing a blank outline. I think the Dil-Bod was their thing before that.

I believe it was released along with the announcement of the Atwood Shriek...WAY after 1952.

There is the sheet-wing Snapper designed by Red Rhinehardt that IS OTS eligible.

Yes, I have the plans for the Reinhardt one, but a KIT for the good one from Southwestern.

Larry, This is the remains of a 1/2A Snapper that I built back around ’53 or ’54. I don’t remember the company’s name but they were located in Tulsa, OK (Southwestern?). It had a wasp .049. When did that wasp come out? That might help me date it.
I’ve been intending to restore it ‘one of these days’ just for old times sake, but it may be beyond saving. Great little stunter on 35 ft .008 solid lines. If plans aren’t available, I can try to take some measurements.

Al,

I got plans of it years ago from John Pond. I would guess that AMA now owns the plan.

George

Update: Checked AMA site. They have both Snappers. The Southwestern Models version (24" span) is $6.00 and is AMA plan #25092 (Pond #45B4). I noticed that AMA offers a second set of a plan for half-price so you can have one for reference and one to build from or cut-up, etc.

I have a kit from Minnesotamodeler, and plans are available from Barry Baxter ( bareneked.com) . So documenting the model is no problem, only establishing the date of the design to make it clear if it is OT or Classic era.

The AMA sell the Reinheart Snapper MAN 7/52 and the Southwestern version .
