There was a thread on here a while back that had a 88 with IR capability. Looked cool and I think they used the 1/18th model?

Yes I did and it was the 21st century Toys 88 flak gun, 1/18 scale.
1/18 and 1/16 go together well, you just have to avoid putting two tanks of the same model side by side (e.g. two shermans, two pzIV), as said above.
