I have 1/16 scale tanks like most of the people on this forum. Any whooo, I was wondering if a 1/18 scale FLAK 88mm would fit in with 1/16?? Any thoughts???

Century 21 or Ultimate Soldier figures are standard in most tanks and the stowage stuff from Build-A-Rama are all 1;18 and look great. The 88 would probably do well as a static ground emplacement and may even work OK if you were to convert a Pz chasis to carry it. Not many other free standing 88s out there to compare side to side. That Century 21 88 is a good looking gun.

Heck Yes! Go for it.......... I have over a dozen and they are fine as long as they are not put next to 1/16th models of the same tank or vehicle. The 1/18th 88 has great detail.

There was a thread on here a while back that had a 88 with IR capability. Looked cool and I think they used the 1/18th model?

Yes I did and it was the 21st century Toys 88 flak gun, 1/18 scale.
1/18 and 1/16 go together well, you just have to avoid putting two tanks of the same model side by side (e.g. two shermans, two pzIV), as said above.

The 1:18 scale stuff fits pretty well. I have a couple of half tracks and a Pak 40 that fits right in. It all actually looks closer too scale that the 1:16 stuff i have seen which makes me wonder sometimes about how accurate our 1:16 scale stuff is.

Hi Jimmy,
Its Danny from the AAF. You rode with us to the pizza place at the last meetup. Where did you get your 1/16 figures? I am looking for German and US figures.

The 251's aren't finished and weathered as well as the earlier M3 halftracks, but they are not in the cheesy toy category either.
Photographing them in black and white certainly helps them look better, and careful positioning will hide the smaller scale. As an example, here's some pics I took a couple of years ago using mostly 1:20 scale Indiana Jones figures and trucks for 'set dressing':
(bonus points if you can spot my Mothers garden gnome...lol)

Panther G,
That is a stunning display built around that 88. I love the gun crew too.
Is that a lost orange airsoft BB I see or the head of a long push pin?
Regardless its just a phenominal set up.
Regards,
J

That's a nice diorama and a great idea ya got there! That makes the battlefield more interesting. It amazes me how often I run into one of those Denix 88s. I wonder how many of them were made originally. I did a Google search and was surprised to see they are available again. The prices asked ran between $88 and $249 (ouch) for the same model. It pays to shop around. I think I paid about $100 for mine 10 or 12 years ago. The one question everyone always has is.......why did they make the barrel in full recoil? Someone once suggested that it could be shipped in a smaller box in that position. I guess that could be true. Goofy stuff happens. I built a travel carriage for mine years ago. Then 21st Century came out with theirs. They did a better job.........much more detail.
