I have the Vortex EPX. I bought it VERY used but it was in ok shape and ran perfect. I ran the truck stock several times before tearing it apart for a rebuild. The stock ESC will handle 6 cells or a 2S liPo but keep in mind that there is no Cutoff for the LiPo so you will need to run a cheap $3 alarm. I eventually upgraded to an XL5 ESC and 15T motor then up to a VXL system. The original ESC and motor still worked fine so I stuck them in an old Bolink Hotrod I had sitting around and they still run today.

I've heard a ton of negative stuff about Redcat and all the other import brands and my reasoning for buying the Vortex was to see for myself if they where any good. I'm happy say that the truck has run great since day one so it would appear that everyone spreading negative rumors have little to no experience with the brand
