from what I've seen, JR is calling it "dual mode spread spectrum" - a combination of DSSS and FHSS.
We ought to take this discussion of JR/Spektrum 2.4GHz methods / performance / etc to a different thread. This one was supposed to be info on JR radios from days past, not technical discussions of spread spectrum.
