Sice the block has to be flush with the wing saddle, not sure how you would do that unless you left a gap there so the ply would encapsulate the wing block so it couldn't pull away from the fuse under a high load. Either way, I am not sure why your opposed to the strap method? If I were to do anything different, I may be tempted to drill through the sides of the fuse into the wing block and pin it will some epoxied in 1/8 dowels or maybe some toothpicks. Just a thought........
