I use two layers of tape. The first is clear packing tape, which stays attached to the top of the wings. The second is 1 inch strapping tape (it has nylon filaments in it) that runs wing to wing, right through the fuselage. When I take the wings off, the strapping tape is thrown away, and the packing tape remains on the wing. No foam damage, and almost invisible. YMMV.
