Scott,

You are the man. I remember setting up my first split rudder with Todd back in 07 and I did it the same way. Since then we have figured out better ways to do it if possible. I have set up many with the 12FG, 12Z, and of course the 14´s. The best way to do it I have found is the following.

Select your model type. 2 ail, 2 elev, 1 rud. and throttle. Then go to the first aux channel and select or name it rudder 2.

After that you will need to assign it to a stick and a trimmer. I use the standard rudder stick and trim for this.

At this point you now have 2 ail, 2 elev, 1 throttle and 2 rudders (Channel 3 and 7) Program everything as normal including the expos but set the rudders in AFR so that the rudder that travels moves 75% with an expo of 40%. The other rudder we move a minimum amount in the same direction (15-20% with 30% expo) What this means is the left rudder will move 75% with 40% expo while the right one will only move about 15% with 30% expo in the same direction. Don´t ask me why we even move the second rudder I cannot remember but it works.

Once you have this flight mode set up copy it to another labeled snaps. At this point equalize the rudders so they both have the same travel and expos. I have found that 65% with 45% expos works really good as a starting point. Of course you will need to increase your ail in this mode as well.

After this is done copy the normal condition once again and label it high rate rudder (or stall turns) This condition will simply be to get maximun rudder through. I use 100% travel with about 65% expo and it is only for the stall turn manuvers. In this condition both rudders need to move the same amount.

In the end you will have 3 conditions to do what 3 dual rates do with a fixed rudder.

Hope this helps

C
