Having helped run events at Danville, VA for the past 5 years or so here are some suggestions


For your competition battles
Keep the rules simple and easy to enforce.
Keep tank inspections quick and easy at a min check
IR emitter depth and opening size, flash, sound, speed and that the tank will take hits on all 4 sides and dies after the correct number of hits



General
Publish your rules early so there are no surprises
Publish raidio requirements so that people traveling will be able to adjust.
Be sure to have frequency control board and tank stands

Once you have your venue try to get deals with the local hotels for discounts and publish your venue and dates as soon as possible so people can try to work out travel plans. Who know perhaps The 702 Red Devils from NC may be able to attend
