Not as odd as you think. It's common enough that I haven't used an extension or Y in years. I extend my servo wires by soldering on more servo wire as needed. That eliminates the need for extensions and the wire doesn't corrode and need cleaning. Ys tend to be a problem new from the box. If you bought a radio that can be mixed {you did} then read the instructions and play with your plane and radio until you have an idea of what mixes you can use. Well, the DX6I mixes, I haven't fooled with the old DX6 so I'm not sure what it has.
