ONly reason is for glueing purposes, especially when sheeting, ie the ribs need to be lightly sanded so that the ca can properly wick.

I really would have agreed with you but after getting a real talking to and a good explanation I had to buy into the idea that it could make a real difference in the quality of your glued joints and strength as well.
