RE: Phoenix Spitfire 40 ARF
Well i been all over the net to see if this model was any good. There are slim pickings on details about the build.I just finished assembling the V2 phoenix spitfire 40 w/retracts.I must say i told my self 2 years ago i would never buy another plane with retracts becuase they are CRAP! I had a T-28 from nitroplanes and it took me over 3 weeks to build,it looked like a 7 year old assembled it at the factory.Nothing fit right,i basically rebuilt it to make it fit.No it is sawed in half an on my wall for decoration due the the retracts colassping and going right through the wing. But anyway i said i would give it another chance to see if maybe it was pilot error and from being a rookie builder at the time. This time i took a half bottle of slow cure 30min epoxy and smothered the inside of the wing around the mechanical retracts. Also added 1/2x1/2 bass wood supports.I built it in about a week and a half. The retracts were alittle tricky becuase there is very little room for your hand in assembling the system.I also added 2.75 robart goodyear tires. The tires supplied wouldn,t be suitable for my vacuum cleaner(JUNK)! I do like the look but im concerned that my 46fx motor wont get it off the ground.Noone on these sights have mentioned what 2cycle engine works good in this plane.I'm just waiting for another good day to fly and then i will report back my findings for all who are concerned.
