So, Cape Town,

Am I to understand that BH Spitfire 40's are not only available, but come retract ready from the kit in SA?

Send pictures.

These look to be available in the US and are much better looking than either Phoenix or BH Spitfires.

That plane is absolutely stunning. Absolutely no comparison between them and the Phoenix or BH.

I am very glad to see you all back on this thread. Looks as if there is another company out there that has some really good looking planes to choose from. Thanks for the information

Well my bad. I checked with it owner last night. He retrofitted the retracts himself. He did such a good job I thought it was factory fitted!

Available it is: http://www.hobbyflightcenter.co.za/b...pitfire_50.htmsans retracts though :embarassed:

He also told me the only issue with the plane is cowl and covering does not fade evenly and advises to spray the whole plane with 2K automotive clear cote paint.
He did reinforce the wing when he fitted the retracts...

Well i been all over the net to see if this model was any good. There are slim pickings on details about the build.I just finished assembling the V2 phoenix spitfire 40 w/retracts.I must say i told my self 2 years ago i would never buy another plane with retracts becuase they are CRAP! I had a T-28 from nitroplanes and it took me over 3 weeks to build,it looked like a 7 year old assembled it at the factory.Nothing fit right,i basically rebuilt it to make it fit.No it is sawed in half an on my wall for decoration due the the retracts colassping and going right through the wing. But anyway i said i would give it another chance to see if maybe it was pilot error and from being a rookie builder at the time. This time i took a half bottle of slow cure 30min epoxy and smothered the inside of the wing around the mechanical retracts. Also added 1/2x1/2 bass wood supports.I built it in about a week and a half. The retracts were alittle tricky becuase there is very little room for your hand in assembling the system.I also added 2.75 robart goodyear tires. The tires supplied wouldn,t be suitable for my vacuum cleaner(JUNK)! I do like the look but im concerned that my 46fx motor wont get it off the ground.Noone on these sights have mentioned what 2cycle engine works good in this plane.I'm just waiting for another good day to fly and then i will report back my findings for all who are concerned.

THIS PLANE SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCKS, SUCK, SUCKS, SUCKS! OH, DID I MENTION IT SUCKS!!! i JUST WENT OUT FOR THE MAIDEN TODAY.THE DAMN THINGS TRUST LINE FROM THE FACTORY IS WAY OFF.THE CG IS WAY OFF ACORDING TO THE MANUAL.THE FUSELAGE IS WEAKER THEN TOOTHPICKS.JUST A ***** PLANE.I ORDERED A NEW FUSELAGE AND TAIL SECTION TO REBUILD.OH AND THE ENGINE CUT OUT DURING MY CLIMB WHILE I WAS TRYING TO TRIM IT OUT.NEXT TIME I WILL HAVE TO COMPLETELY EPOXY THE INSIDE OF THE FUSE AND USE A LASER TO SET THE THRUST LINE.JUST NOT A GOOD DAY.I HAVE BUILT 10 PLANES AND NEVER HAD A PROBLEM LIKE THIS.THE MANUFACTUER NEEDS TO REDO THE MANUAL AND RETHINK THIS AIRCRAFT.THE DESIGNER MUST HAVE BEEN SMOKING CRACK WHILE DESIGNING THIS PLANE.AS YOU CAN SEE IM PISSED.I TOOK A CHANCE ON THIS PLANE AND LOST...BIG TIME.MY OPINION DO NOT BUY THIS PLANE.I REPEAT DO NOT BUY THIS PLANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLESS YOU LIKE FLUSHING $169 BUCKS DOWN THE FREAKING TOILET!

Just a note: A 46fx motor with a 3 blade 10x7 master airscrew is plenty power for this plane.I suggest you add half the weight needed to the nose when balancing because the manual cg is off.85mm from the leading edge is to much and makes the plane very nose heavy.I will rebuild one last time and report my finds in about a week or two.

Looks like all the Spitfire 40 ARF have hit the ground!!! Have not seen anything about this plane being flown. It is getting time for the flying season to pick up. Hope you still have your Spitfire and it is ready to hit the air again.

Let me ( us ) know more about what you are doing with your Spitfire!!

Well, guess I was right, all the Spitfires have been shot down or the pilot came to close to the ground. : > ( Tell me this is NOT true. Let us see that plane and tell all about how it flys. If you have some new photos of this plane please post them so all of us can enjoy them.

yes it is true ! the 85mm cg that is recomended in the manual is way off . I had to drill new holes on the engine mount to mount the engine as close to the firewall as possible . I also moved the battery and every things that can be move to the rear . Still it is nose heavy .

believe it or not , on my maiden flight 5 months agoIhad to pull all the way up elevatorto take it off the runway and fly it with all the way up elevator to turn around to land immediately . Lucky for me , I didn't crash it that time .

After I had done all of the above , the cg is still at 115mm from the leading edge and no way can it be 85mm as said in the manual . I had to add 8 clicks up elevator to have it fly level , and that up elevator causes the plane very unstable in flight and finally , I crashed it today , total loss !

I bought it in february this year , and after 5 months of trying to balance it to makeitfly stable , all effort failed . It is a waste of time and money .

Minh .

I am looking at purchasing this plane. This is the only negative post about this plane. What are the overall thoughts on this plane? Is this guy right about this plane? Does it fly like a "brick" as he says? That's odd since everyone seems to be praising this plane, except for an issue with the retracts, which is fixable.
