ORIGINAL: FahrtAutoRC

Most brushless systems will have a way of limiting the power so you can start him slow and then later crank it up and its like upgrading his RC for free (to him ). You really want to look for name brands however, I dont think i have even heard of FTX which could be a downfall in many departments, including parts support. I would really lean towards any of the following: HPI, Losi, Traxxas, Associated, Tamiya, Kyosho, Duratrax, etc etc. I would recommend checking at your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) and seeing what they stock and what they carry parts for, and making your decision from there. An increase in budget will be a godsend in the long run, you will end up with a better quality, well supported vehicle. Bring your findings back here and we can be more than helpful. Have fun!!!
Just so you know, FTX is a rather well known brand over in the UK (where the asker is from) and about comperable to Duratrax (product wise) here in the States.
