Most brushless systems will have a way of limiting the power so you can start him slow and then later crank it up and its like upgrading his RC for free (to him
). You really want to look for name brands however, I dont think i have even heard of FTX which could be a downfall in many departments, including parts support. I would really lean towards any of the following: HPI, Losi, Traxxas, Associated, Tamiya, Kyosho, Duratrax, etc etc. I would recommend checking at your LHS (Local Hobby Shop) and seeing what they stock and what they carry parts for, and making your decision from there. An increase in budget will be a godsend in the long run, you will end up with a better quality, well supported vehicle. Bring your findings back here and we can be more than helpful. Have fun!!!

the vantage don't look that bad
Its sold over here in the states under a different brand(integy i10B, took me a while to remember where I saw the vantage before) at a fair bit higher price point for the brushed RTR than you get the BL one for...
Just check to see how much stuff like arms, knuckles, driveshafts cost to replace. Sometimes the lower cost RC's have insane prices on common parts that break.
