PAW has certainly confused most of us, with their model designations!
I think the lovely little 55 comes from the cc displacement (.55), and those have always carried that designation (as far as I know).
My four little ones are all older production, 55 BR (anodized), 80 TBR, 100 TBR, and strangely enough a 2.49 TBR of the same period. The 2.49 came in a 1.49 box, and that is the displacement I would have actually preferred, since I have plenty of 15 size engines already.
Yes, the anodizing dressed up the early engines nicely, and made it easier to tell the capacity at a glance. The quality of their previous anodizing must have been expensive though. so I can't blame them for dropping that feature.
The only one of my PAW engines that I've run so far is the 100, and it's a little gem, but still needs some run time. Somehow, I managed to over torque the nylon prop, and damaged the prop driver. It was set aside while waiting for a replacement.
