Just finished the BlackToe 2x4 from
http://buildyourcnc.com/default.aspx . Maybe a little beyond you price range, but the smaller Blue Chick might fit the bill. Made out of MDO, but goes together like a charm and all the vids on his site do real well to explain every step. Might do you good just to watch the videos for informational purposes.
