Default RE: 1st. build electric

I just built my first electric plane; haven't flown it yet because of windy weather. It has a BI 2212/13 outrunner motor turning a APC 10x4.7 propeller. ESC is a 30 amp BP Hobbies. The battery is the same size as yours. When I connected the ESC to the battery to run the motor for the first time, smoke poured out of the ESC. I took it back to my local hobby shop and they replaced the ESC at no cost. (We cut open the bad ESC and found that one of the capacitors had fried.) I also purchased a Turnigy Accucell 6 battery charger. Also, I bought a micro torch and some solder because the ESC did not come with the connectors. For servos, I bought three Hitec 55s servos - they're small and cheap.

I don't know what size plane an Alpha 450 is, so your motor and ESC might need to be bigger or smaller.
