Does it make any sense for me to go for 3 days, with only 2 contests at the intermediate level under my belt? Would it really be worth it or better to try for a full week and with more practice next year?

I completely agree. The amount of information gained from meeting people from all over. Seeing different planes, styles and everything else is amazing along with the chance to meet all these people whose names you see, but never met. I will promise you, that no matter how well prepared you are, your knees will be shaking at your first flight at the NATS, but after that, the shaking relaxed quite a bit at your next local contest. Plus you get to say that you competed at the Nationals and you wouldn't be the first person who was surprised just how well they did when they weren't sure they were ready.
