Yes....you can get it to run the other direction.....but not as strong.....the intake manifold (cast as part of the crankcase), is "Directional".....
Have you reversed a DLE111 and ran it the other direction, doesn't sound like it from your post.

Buy the universal positionsensor,set the timing at 28* BTDC,put the prop on backward and give it try, you may be surprised.
