I know this is late (along with many other posts), but I saw a post mentioning not having to move the firewall because of the position of a side mounted carb. It is not necessary to move the firewall if a hole is cut in the firewall itself so the carb can protrude through it. I am assuming this would be a rear carb.
Also, I vote for gas all the way. Even beyond that, I would put a Mag G38 on it! I like the mag engines as they work all the time without the extra battery. Then, you will not have to worry about tail heavy especially if yuo build the tail light.
Another point, use a 1/4" music wire axel. This will save you the hassle of replacing the smaller stock axel later on.
