Hi Rick... I'm currently assembling an Ultra Stick Lite which probably has a similar situation using a hardwood joiner spar for a single piece wing. I've concluded that the joiner must be glued otherwise the stress would simply lever apart the spars and of course fail. Short of doing some significant wing surgery... I've discounted the idea of a two piece wing.
