If the construction is similar to mine... it has lite ply webs each side of the spars for abt 5-6 inches... at the minimum I'd think the covering would have to come off both sides in that area and the lite ply webs removed and traded for AC ply and epoxy with pin *****s in the side of the spars and new webs to insure 'nailing' the ply to the spars.
