If you're using a parallel port interface, have you tried changing the mode?

As well as the standard mode for use with a simple printer, parallel ports work in Enhanced Parallel Port EPP and Extended Capability Port ECP and it might be yours isn't set to work with the fms program.

You can change this by getting into the BIOS at start up (it varies from machine to machine, but try the delete key, F9, or maybe F12 before the windows log on screen appears) and toggling through the parallel port setups and changing it to ECP.
