Probably too low. 2 cell with a diode seems best.
Probably? You don't know what you are using? And what is the diode for?
lol

I know exactly what I'm using. 2S A123's with a diode to drop the input voltage by .7v to keep it under 6v for the DLE stock ignitions (which will fry over 6v).

The RC Excel ign's are rated from 4.8 to 6V, so I would (and do) run the same configuration on them. Thats what the Pawnee is running, a GT80 with an RC Excel conversion powered by a 2S A123 with a diode on the line right before the ignition module.
