Not so fast there , ol Hoss ,
To most folks minds , a membership card is a document proving that a person has paid their membership dues for the current time period .
A License is a document obtained after passing a TEST to prove skills worthy of engaging in the Licensed activity . Now , Just cause AMA may have in the past , and may even in some documents still do , call our membership card a ''License'' , does NOT mean they are using the term in the way that the 99% of the rest of the general public does .
Ask anybody outside this discussion what constitutes the difference between a ''Membership Card'' and a ''License'' , and the educated respondent will counter with a LICENSE requiring some sort of TEST .
Anyone here take any kind of TEST to get their toy plane ''License'' ? .....

Sounds like you may have ditched several days when reading skills were being presented.
I never insinuated that the AMA use of ''license'' was any more than the 2013
Membership Manual containing terms that are way beyond being correct for today's use of the Membership Card. AMA is, IMO, far behind where they should be.
As far as License being used as per your ''Testing'' is concerned, I took a test for a Texas driver's license - judge approved - at age 14 (1950). Years later I moved to IL and had to take an IL test for an IL. License. (1968) In 1985 I returned to TX. I went to the TX DL office and they traded me a TX DL for my IL. one. NO TEST
Now last month I went on line and received a new DL good until 02-19-2020. NO TEST. [8D] Maybe surviving these women TEXTING through the red lights is ''test'' enough.
Same for my TX CHL. I did not have to test for the last renewal. Current license is good until 02-19-2017.
BTW I ditched school a lot of days. When I graduated from High School (1054) the Principal had something to say about each student. Mine was that either Horrace was too sick to go fishing or fish were not biting because those were the days he came to school.
I suppose he forgot those days of flying CL in my back yard with an 80 Ft radius circle. HA.
IMO again, AMA is too far into today's problems to bring their manuals up to date. They P & M about ''Leader Members'' not doing anything yet when there are a number of projects that LMs could assist in getting some of the old stuff restructured, they never move in such direction. Government is government no matter the level.
