yes it can, assuming sport flying means standard aerobatics like loops, rolls, stall turns etc. You would just build it at standard, use small throws and a conservative C of G.
However if you want a 3D trainer, to learn prop hanging, waterfalls, walls, parachutes etc, whilst the Capiche can do them all, there are easier models out there to learn on. The Capiche's wing is relatively thin compared to most funfly/3d planes and thus has a sharper stall which is not ideal for a 3d begineer.
The Capiche's strength lies in its versatility it does smooth pattern style aeros well and can also do 3D well. Its knife edge characteristics are excellent.
There is supposedly a funfly type wing coming out for the capiche. This would probably make the Capiche into a suitable 3d trainer. I'm sure Archie will update us on the progress of the funfly wing...............
