You're overthinking the grease thing. A simple shot of WD-40 will be enough to keep anything from rusting. The stuff is made of mostly fish oil and was specifically engineered to be a water displacer to prevent rust on iron. A shot of after run oil after you have it all back together will lubricate the internals plenty to start the engine.
