Scott - carbon ROD, or carbon tube? I've been using the carbon tubes with the .074 ID hole, 1/8" od - if I remember correctly. The threaded rod end taps in like you're showing, and the aluminum keeps them from splitting.. I lost a plane once several years ago with the first carbon pushrods I ever tried. Didn't put the tubing on the outside, it cracked and the wire came loose - on the elevator pushrod.
