The 170 has not been available commercially for quite a while now. Of course, you can still get used ones.

The main advantages between the two are better mid range torque, able to swing a 20.5x10 PN prop with authority for better transition, enabling a slower down line & more constant speed.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 170, it has enough power to pull any of the designs out there. However, if you're flying those newer design with the more forward larger canopy/ taller fuse type or the bipes, the 175 will definitely gives you an advantage. Especially, the power hungry F-15.
