No matter how long your oval racetrack pattern is, for one brief moment during one of the two turns, you are going to be headed towards the pits. Only way to avoid it is to do split S or immelman or half Cuban turnsrounds, or to fly a figure 8 pattern. This is not the problem we are discussing, though.
