My first radio was a second-hand Digitrio in 1969 or '70. I was fascinated with electronics but other than building a 5-tube AM radio kit and a handful of smaller projects, I lacked a good understanding of electronics. However, that all changed in 1972 when I enlisted in the USAF and was sent to Keesler AFB to become a radar maintenance troop. After 9 months of electronics training, I was finally able to understand the Digitrio down to the component level.

That was a great time to be in electronics and R/C airplanes because technological advancements were happening in both very quickly! Great memories!

I sold my Digitrio (why oh why did I ever do that???) to a fellow airman in 1975. Over the past couple of years, I have collected all of the RCM Digitrio articles and have also bought a couple of old Digitrio transmitters on eBay. My intent is to put modern electronics in the boxes to use when flying some vintage models (with modern flight packs).
