The issue with the Hangtimes configuration is that if a cell (or pack) shorts, it will likely bring downt the entire Rx bus voltage.
I have used diodes in the circuit in the past, but now I don't bother with them. I finally came to understand that the possibility of a shorted cell/pack is very remote. Certainly nothing wrong with adding the diodes.
