Once I put the screwshaft back into place and tested, it seems the issue may be with a sensor which does not seem to shut off after the retract fully extends. It keeps running and pulls the shaft out again. I held the shaft to provide resistance to see if it would cut off the motor, but it just bogged and kept going.
