So it is the remote. I talked to Nathan at OKC and he said he would gladly exchange it. I sure was dumb not to just check that in the first place,
If you have a phone with IR capability (most Android phone do) then download a universal TV remote app and with the new sony remote program save all the buttons and rename them to the functions they perform. This way you can always program on the fly if needed!
