I have been told by several hobby shops that you cant get 0% in the US
You've been told wrong. Most fuel companies offer a 0% nitro in their lineup. It's called "FAI" fuel by most, and it's 80% methanol, 20% oil.
Most hobby shops don't want to stock it because there's very little demand for it, but it's available.
