You can absolutely and without doubt trust anything "TIRED OLD MAN" says. He has probably more experience on a professional level than all of us put together.

Having said that, I do sometimes throw a new engine on the test stand for just one tank of fuel to get it sorted and give it one heat soak. Many engines "loosen up" and start to seat the ring quite a bit during that first tank. Plus, if you happen to find something wrong, it's a lot easier to deal with than having the engine on the airplane.
