The first flights on a plane generally tell a lot in terms of the quality of the design and the amount of trimming that will be required. I'm very pleased with the first flights on the Alchemy. I started with the CG just back of the rear edge of the wing tube. She needed a little left aileron trim, and immediately felt extremely comfortable. A push to the wheels on left rudder KE, so I moved the CG forward a bit, and after trimming for straight upright and up-line, there is perhaps still a very slight push on left rudder. But it was windy so not ideal conditions to trim. The rudder aileron coupling is really good. On the second flight it did a vertical KE figure eight, with no roll coupling. Only at full rudder doing very aggressive KE corners is there a slight proverse roll coupling (rolls opposite direction to rudder). Its a very small coupling, and the Alchemy is by far the best coupling design that I have flown. With some further trimming and tweaking of the stab alignment I may even be able to get rid of that. Spins are great and the rotation stops nicely. Snaps are very nice. The slightly bigger aileron and thinner wing tips (as compared to the Allure) certainly improve the ability to do fast snaps in all attitudes. She tracks and rolls beautifully. Feels similar to the Allure (as one would expect). The rudder is powerful, and she pivots on the CG very nicely in stall turns.
The stock factory wing incidences seem to work very well. I will make a very small adjustment on one wing to remove the little bit of aileron trim. Certainly no need for wing incidence adjusters.
I know this is a design that will get to the fine tuned trimming very quickly. New planes take a bit of time to get used to, to learn, and to over some time really get to see what issues they may have. It will be interesting to report back in time once I've had more flights and learn her habits. But what I can confirm at this stage is that the Alchemy really is a very low mix design, with ample rudder power and excellent yaw damping and stability. Works really well with the contra-drive. I flew two P-19 schedules and the Alchemy really made it easy. Looking forward to doing some more challenging things in the F-19.
Bryan congrats on an excellent design. This takes the Allure another notch up.
