As for the cowl touching something, take a look at this:

On the inside of my cowl where the hub exits, there was a big lip around the opening. Everytime I tried fitting the cowl, I met resistence and I couldn't find where it was hitting. When I finally found it, took a dremel sanding drum to it and 5 seconds later everything fit fine.
