Some eons ago, I did some setup experiments with a 1/8 scale F16 , and tried a normal setup with no flaps, normal+flaperons, flaperons+elevons and just flaps and elevons.. the later was the one that worked best for me.

As the F-35 has about the same wing/elevator platform then I will start this way...
