IIRC the purpose of the thin liner was to compensate for the difference in thermal expansion between the piston and the brass cylinder. It is not needed in ringed engines like the 160FX. The problem with nickel was because OS got cheap and replaced chrome with nickel. I've not heard of "ABL" since I quit using fuel some time ago. I don't think I ever had an ABN engine.
