That was the way it was done and it worked for a long time so I don't see why it wouldn't work now.

If it were me, and I was building one from scratch, I'd use small MKS or Torq servos in the stabs, but with the level of completion you have, I'd finish it like you said and fly it. That's just my 2 cents.
