We still have a concrete circle at the field in town. We are in one of the city parks. When the Jaycees ( the original owners of the park ) turned the land over to the city there was a provision that there would always be a flying field. So we lucked out. Club politics can be a pain. For 20 years I lived 40 miles down the road and so wasn't an active member. My understanding is that there were people in the club that pretty much ran off anyone who didn't think like them but they aged out and the current bunch are pretty open to flying whatever you like. That said I am probably the only person to use the circle in the last decade. It gets used fairly often for model rockets. I live out in the country. I can and have flown from from my front yard but trees, outbuilding and powerlines pretty much keep me on 50ft or less lines.
