finally got up the nerve to maiden my extra last week, nice day fairly calm
a couple taxis then gave the MDS148 throttle up
loads of power and a very quick takeoff and completely vertical, got somewhat frozen at the sticks and had to let off before it got too high
back down to normal flite height and on the second pass the engine quit.
I was already past the end of our field then had to turn around to get back into a landing circuit into the wind
It was an excellent glider and actually landed too fast and went about 10' into the farm field before stopping
- no damage other than frazzled nerves.
I ended up changing the tank padding and decided to put my ys110fz on it.

Been waiting for good conditions and today went out hoping the east cross wind would die out but just managed to setup the ys110 on the plane and do some taxiing.
Had trouble turning the plane with the crosswind on the field and no matter how low I put the idle the plane was still moving on the grass.
I had it down so low it sounded like the original model "T" Ford
That motor has excellent transition from idle to high and never quit once thru that tank of fuel
the plane seems very lightweight with that engine, a bit of throttle and the tail is up and the wheels are skimming the grass
I'll try again but first I need a smaller prop, 17x6 on there now I'll dig out & try a 16x6
I already know the plane will fly great but I dont want to come in too slow and stall, or glide right over our 300' field again
