Rok Hunter
I am building a second GB300 from the Balsa Work Bench short kit and just finished the wing.
I used 1/2" square balsa inserted into the cut outs on the wing ribs leading edges. I then butted the wing sheeting up to the square leading edge. It was a pita getting it to curve and keeping the joint tight against the leading edge while the glue dried though.

I then used the supplied laser cut end cap for the tip as a guide for the LE shape. Rough shaped the leading edge with a small razor plane and sanded it to final shape with a 12" sanding bar. The razor plane makes quick work of it. I had about 20 minutes total time in each LE.

I took some good pictures of all this. It will not let me post them due to the sites minimum 10 post count not being reached yet. Sorry

My CG Extra build is coming along but quite slowly. I have now completed the wing and for the leading edge I used a 1/2" sq. balsa stick and used my razor plane to whittle it to shape and final sanded it. I have also drilled and fitted Robart hinges to the control surfaces and am in the process of attaching the 1/32" ply turtle deck. After this I will take a break while awaiting the arrival of the fiberglass cowl and canopy.

Hey there Karol,
Did you order canopy and cowl from fiberglass Specialties?

Looking forward to some pics of the progress.

finally got up the nerve to maiden my extra last week, nice day fairly calm
a couple taxis then gave the MDS148 throttle up
loads of power and a very quick takeoff and completely vertical, got somewhat frozen at the sticks and had to let off before it got too high
back down to normal flite height and on the second pass the engine quit.
I was already past the end of our field then had to turn around to get back into a landing circuit into the wind
It was an excellent glider and actually landed too fast and went about 10' into the farm field before stopping
- no damage other than frazzled nerves.
I ended up changing the tank padding and decided to put my ys110fz on it.

Been waiting for good conditions and today went out hoping the east cross wind would die out but just managed to setup the ys110 on the plane and do some taxiing.
Had trouble turning the plane with the crosswind on the field and no matter how low I put the idle the plane was still moving on the grass.
I had it down so low it sounded like the original model "T" Ford
That motor has excellent transition from idle to high and never quit once thru that tank of fuel
the plane seems very lightweight with that engine, a bit of throttle and the tail is up and the wheels are skimming the grass
I'll try again but first I need a smaller prop, 17x6 on there now I'll dig out & try a 16x6
I already know the plane will fly great but I dont want to come in too slow and stall, or glide right over our 300' field again

Default what a flyer

managed to find a 15x8 prop ... now the plane will sit still while idling
Got 4 flights in the first day even with a cross wind
This thing is a floater.. I have to come in low (luckily theres only soy beans at the ends of the field) and at idle
and it still floats amost all the way down the field before gently landing
Idle on the ys110fx is ~1900rpm
I am impressed and very satisfied with the build, and that ys110 hasnt quit in over a dozen flights
Next time out I'm going to try a knife edge
Its painted red and I'm going to go to our library and get them to vinyl cut a big white maple leaf as a roundel for the top side of the wing

what a great flyer

What landing gear is everyone using? I had found some carbon fiber gear from hobby King that looked like it will fit but those have been out of stock for months. Nothing else I've found seems to be the right dimensions. I'd really like to avoid the wire gear called for in the plans .....

I've always made my own from aluminium 2" strip
cut to a taper and bent in a vise or rounded for my ultra-piplane
have a made several over the years for 40" to larger 78" planes
always recycle them to the next appropriate size plane
